(Un)welcoming Wednesday

We are delighted to report that Seppo is healing really well from his bitey. This necessitated lots of pills and jabs, and we are blessed (Äiti's word) that ystävämme eläinlääkäri has been known to do some of these on a home visit.  When she comes, there is a mad rush to greet her at the door as she is very popular with the burmese, and with Seppo (despite the recent trauma).

However, this is Otso's response.

He does not like ystävämme eläinlääkäri. He is very impolite, and fails to recognise that it is because of her that he was taken out of foster-kitty care, and found his permanent home with us. The poor mancat will not allow her to get within a few metres of him as he thinks she'll whisk him away again. Thanks goodness the other felocrats are a little more friendly.

Wounded Wednesday

Seppo is looking a little lopsided. He got bitten in his paw-pit.

The culprit.......
And here is Seppo being brave after the abscess was removed. He has a smart blue bandage, and loads of stitches. The paw-pit is not a good place for a bitey.
We thank ystävämme eläinlääkäri and all her staff at Lemmikki - Seppo may screech and wail dramatically, but he is also very grateful. Except when he spies the antibiotics he has to take.

Thursday Torment

No, I will not look at the camera: get me into that box please - now !  Yes, I have ended up at ystävämme eläinlääkäri  again. I have had yet another bitey which you can maybe see as a lump on my left shoulder. Cat code of honour means I cannot say who did it but needless to say we are all very fed up with this. Especially me.

I was, however, very brave and clung on to Äiti as all the pus was drained away. I felt much better and snuggled all night with her, and ate lots of food and treats. I am safe in  my quarters for my recovery, away from bitey burmese fangs.

Tuesday Trauma

So, the bitey from Sampo has festered into a mighty war wound, despite antibiotics, and Äiti got this impressive picture of it. Notice that it is not on my butt, which indicates I was not running away from my foe but valiantly battling.
However, this of course needed treatment and I was whisked away to be at the door to ystävämme eläinlääkäri's place the moment it opened. After a painkiller and sedation, this huge growth was opened. It was not pleasant, and Äiti has promised not to share the video of what emerged, as it was  revolting.  And stinky. I was quite proud of making the humans feel icky. I stayed at the vet's all day as I needed to rest, and keep the wound clean, and came home to a feast of tuna later. I have not discussed issues with Sampo..... yet.

Sunnyday

Recently I have been resting in my own personal quarters, the back bedroom. It is beautifully sunny. However I have not been feeling so well as that bite from Sampo (a few weeks ago) has reinfected inside and I had to be stabbed again by ystävämme eläinlääkäri. And now I'm on two lots of pills. Äiti has said a few grumpy words to Sampo about the situation which is clearly his fault.
But I am on extra food rations, brought to me whenever I hint at hunger.  And as you can see, I have a new yellow collar on, so things are not all bad.

Friday Fracas

There was a fight. Sampo had a few furs removed. I got bitten. All because I cannot defend myself thanks to recent clippy claws from Äiti. She was fed up with me autographing her flesh. Well, now she just will have to put up with it as I need my claws. I  sang loudly and tunefully as I was dragged off for antibiotics and a check in with ystävämme eläinlääkäri. I am 5 kg and growing, thanks to snarfing down kitten foods.
See my scars ? Worn proudly. Sampo covers his with fur, the coward.
He's jealous because I get to sleep in with Äiti, and perhaps a little threatened by Papu's little beanlets. Papu is the word for bean in Finnish, just in case you wonder why I sniggered.

Troubling Thursday

On Tuesday Jura was not so happy, and having trouble with his throat. Knowing what had happened with Mirksu, Äiti was straight on the phone to ystävämme eläinlääkäri and soon Jura found himself at their new premises.
He was sedated and his throat explored. There is something down there which should not be there - a nasty swelling. At worst it is a tumour, but it could also be some localised infection - which is what we are hoping with all paws crossed. He has been given a cortisol injection and has had a very healthy appetite since he came back, and so far no retching. Here he is being checked by sister Jaava just when he came back home and was still wobbly from the sedation.
We are of course worried about the outcome of this. This is not the same sort of problem that Mirsku had so there seems to be no connection. Jura is only nine years old and is a throat problem like this is rare and just 'unlucky', but of course Äiti is going through all possibilities of causes. There do not seem to be any, except perhaps that we are fed a proprietary brand of wet food as a staple. We'll be getting more homemade stuff, for sure, and avoiding all cheap treats. In the meantime, we just have to wait to see if Jura responds to the treatment and hope that this is really just an infection.
