Wisthful Wednesday

Äiti was delighted with this visitor to the garden. Apparently it is a rare birdy which stopped over en route to its summer residence. It is called a bluethroat or sinirinta - aren't humans imaginative ? This is a boy birdy and he was very aggressively defending his temporary territory which was a rich source of food thanks to the human who lives here and feeds all other creatures luxuriously, except for us of course.
We of course could supplement or foods if only the Catio wire were not in the way. Pekka is trying to persuade Äiti to remove it, as the blurry birdie chortles away at its good fortune.

Merry Monday -Not

This year, Äiti did not make us pose in stoopy red hats, and in fact she had a total fail in the Christmas photo department. As a result, this is her offering. Talk about torment for us - a birdie we are not allowed to eat.
But seriously, we have had a postal strike here and Äiti had a picture all lined up of Mirsku, and then he left us and the spirit of joy left Äiti too. As a result, she has sent no cards and done nothing for the festive season. She apologises to loyal readers who usually get a card from her, but she just couldn't do it this year. She will make a donation to the local cat rescue to prove she is not a total grinch.   She still has time to go shopping for our Christmas lunch - turkey and salmon sound good to us.

Woodpecker Wednesday

Äiti loves birds. She feeds them. We hope they will feed us but this does not make her happy. She figures we should just watch the birds and most of the time we do (so far only 4 birdies have been our victims in 11 years - well, that she knows about).  But we have our eyes on this one, who comes supplied with his very own toothpick: Mr Woodpecker. Here he is on the feeder.
And here he is outside the Catio looking in.
And now he's on the inside. Where are we ?  In the house in the warm.
And now he's playing peek-a-boo from behind our snow-covered-fungus-covered stump. How much nerve does he have ?
And now he's leaving.  Unharmed.
Next time.............

Monday Mancat

Pekka is absolutely diligent on snow patrol. He is focused, and optimistic....
But the birdies are keeping away.

Saturday Squawker

A few days ago, some feathers were found in the living room. We were all silent, obeying cats' honour code.Well,Äiti has set upa camera on the bird table outside and look what she discovered.
A manxie birdie!  We are staying vey silent about how its tailio feathers ended up in the house.
And for you to ponder and enjoy - the jigsaw.Even though it has a picture of something with feathers. Fewer feathers than it should have .....

Stinky Stinkeye Sunday

While out watching stinky birds, Äiti found this one. It is an owlet, a young suopöllö or short-eared owl, and  it was just sat by the path and a little unsure of what to do next except stare at the camera annoying it.
Sadly Äiti did not pick it up and bring it home for us, although maybe that's for the best as its claws and beak were pretty fierce. Also, as it eats mousies, we don't want any competition from it.

Tuesday Tweet

Each day we are woken by this creature, sitting on the roof of the house next door. It is kuovi, a curlew. In fact there are two, and some babies which strut around the area. Jura was so hopeful when one was in the garden after a storm, but Mama and Dadda made a huge noise protecting it. These birds visit here for summer, and are really loud.  In fact, I wish I could tape their beaks shut as they disturb my naps.
