Froggy Friday

Apparently the froggies are worthy of taking up a blogpost today. Here is Franki, tormenting us from the terrarium.

We think she would be very tasty but of course Äiti makes sure that she is well protected.

At night she hunts for food and enjoys a good soak. She pretty much fills the water dish as she is a greedy guts and eats loads.

 This is her pal Freddi, in the same bowl.  The poor boy clearly is not left much food after Franki has stuffed her face.

Äiti can hand feed both of them so she tries to make sure Freddi gets enough. They eat crickets, and we deal with the escaped ones!

Froggy Friday

Franki and Freddi the WTF's are continuing to do their froggy stuff at night, and each evening Franki comes out of her hidey hole to wait for feeding time. Äiti caught this video of her in action. 

She joins the ranks of us felines as mighty hunters we think.

Man Frog Monday

We knew it would not be long before Franki got a pal - we introduce Freddi. He's the brown spotty lump under her. He's shy - understandably.

We know Äiti wanted to get Franki company but we are a little bit worried about Freddi; this is how a WTF* eats.......

We really hope Freddi is ready for this sort of behaviour from his tank-mate.

WTF Friday ?

Yes, that is for White's Tree Frog Friday.  She got us a froggie!

Back in ancient history, Äiti used to keep amphibians, and when our favourite pet shop (Muskettikoira in Oulu - not part of a chain of shops and they only sell high stuff) had one of these in a terrarium, Äiti could not resist. She knows all about keeping them as she had this species in Britain for many years. It is also called an Australian tree frog, or korallisormisammakko in Finnish. And Litoria caerulea in Latin. 

Sampo was intrigued by the food it eats.............

Apparently we must not regard it as a snack even if we want to know if frog really does taste like chicken.

Right now we do not know if Froggie is male or female - if it is male it will call at night. Females are silent. However you can also tell as the males have brown at the base of their thumbs. We cannot believe that frogs have thumbs and we don't!  So, Äiti has chosen to call it Franki - so it can be Frank if a boy, or Francesca if a girl. It's pronounced Frankie in English but spelled in a Finnish way.
