Saturday Sabbatical

Loyal Readers, Äiti has decided she needs a little break from blogging - it's that time of year again when the Black Dog comes lurking around. Even though the light is returning and brightening the snows, Äiti wishes she were hibernating - or at the very least snuggling up with us all day and every day.  I have reluctantly agreed to allow this - well, what choice do I have ? Do not fear, I shall be utilising the time well as I have seen much turkey and salmon in the freezer.
And Äiti has the most important and delightful duty of scritching Lewis. For 13 years he has not allowed this, and now herb heart is melting as she tickles his chin. This is the best antidote to the Black Dog*.
*We were discussing this Black Dog phrase in the felocracy, and we don't like it as it is prejudiced against dark canines. Äiti likes the phrase 'The Grim' but it's also not right as it implies a very serious depression and that's not the case. What phrase could we use for the old seasonal sads that come along ?

  1. Hope that black dog goes away quickly. We can tell the days are getting longer again too.

  2. Hibernating is an excellent phrase For this season here up north. Take all The Time needed For pampering Lewis & co.!

  3. Why not just call it the Seasonal Sads? Because that's what it is.

  4. My heart is also melting - what a reward for Äiti that Lewis allows her to touch him!! I still admire her for taking two very very shy cats as her first cats. I know that many people wouldn´t do that. I´m uncertain whether I would have done that - but now I would also welcome shy cats and just enjoy if they make progress, and accept if they don´t as long as they are happy in their own way. I remember when Harry came around and opened up - and hoped that Lewis would ever follow him.

13 years is a long time to wait for a shy cat to come around - she has certainly deserved his trust!! Well done!

  5. It is indeed most wonderful. Sadly Harris never did open up, except at the very end when Äiti was able to cuddle him for the first time. He found his comfort in the other cats and was a big snuggler with them.
We do appreciate Äiti mostly lets us live our lives on our terms - although I think I hear the sound of the bath being filled for Seppo and myself - which is not what we would choose! Veikko.

    1. Oh, I must have mixed up something, I thought Harris (not Harry, hehe) became eventually braver. Or was he more self-secure and less hiding than Lewis? Trying to figure out why I was sure that Äiti wished Lewis would follow Harris´example.

But most likely I`m just mixing up something :D

  6. Rather than "black dog", how about "gray dog"?

  7. The Black Dog has much to answer for. I hope he soon leaves Äiti alone. He visits me throughout the year, not seasonal but a side effect of medication. Thankfully his visits are not as regular as they were before.

  8. We will miss you, Viscount Veikko, since we need a dose of nekkid kitties often, as we don't have any of our own. However, we'll be here when you return. Take care!

  11. We think "seasonal SADs" is purrfect. And we are so happy that Lewis' allowing skritches is a wonderful contribution to easing them.

Baths are necessary for nekkids, you two. So try to enjoy the attention.
