Vernal Wednesday

Spring is here ! We have just passed the equinox, and the light is returning. Some of us (those with fur) have been out in the first sunpuddles - as you can see from Jura.

Papu was outside too. He has been busy, catching whatever he can from the Catio so that Äiti can step on some poor deceased shrew when she wakes up.

Now we have had something very interesting to 'hunt'. Seppo and I are investigating the wing of varpushaukka, a sparrowhawk, which she found while out spotting stinky birds. Sometimes we get a feather or two, but this was a big part of the wing. We finally got a look in after Papu had finished carrying it round the Catle, growling away.  The haukka had been killed and mostly eaten when Äiti found it, so it was pretty much just the feathers left.

And when we removed the wing to hide it for future use, Otso took over the pillar. He enjoyed the sunpuddle, from inside the house. There is still ice and snow outdoors - and will be for a long time yet - so he wisely keeps warm and sunny too.

  1. You kits got a whole, real, bird wing?!?
    Lucky.
Our Mom won’t even let us keep a bug. She’s a real killjoy.

  2. The wing was a great prize to get!
I remember in the early days when the boys were allowed out unattended before Eric started wandering too far. We saw him struggling up the race with a pheasant. He looked so funny dragging it between his legs. There are shooting grounds not too far from us and it had been winged, so probably flew off but died in our fields.

  3. The Hubby found some goose feathers awhile ago, but he put them away so no kitty would mess with them; he's made them into decor, if you can believe THAT!

We love comments from our Loyal Readers, even though Äiti is really bad at commenting back. But please don't let that stop you......

Saa kirjoitta suomeksikin - Äiti on laiska, mutta on pakko oppia suomea.

Tervetuloa! Welcome!
