Sunday Scrabble

As Äiti ages disgracefully, she has taken up knitting socks - a fine hobby and it measn we donät have another zillion sweaters we never wear. Aila, also aging, has decided she quite likes the lap provided as Äiti knits, especially as she will randomly swipe at the yarn.
Äiti is also using the laptop to play Scrabble with Spitty's Human and they have quite a battle going on. It's not quite the official Scrabble board and Äiti was really shocked when the dictionary allowed the highlighted word. Is there an official definition of 'tabbying' *? Mirsku just smiled when asked. Äiti was very pleased with the word - not quite so pleased with the letters she got afterwards.
* 'kitteny' was also allowed but 'tuxie' was not. We think the dictionary needs a revamp.

    I can't believe tuxie wasn't allowed. Maybe tabbies are running the website and are tired of tuxies getting all the glory.

    Really, slaughtered is a more accurate term than battles. The humiliating troof is the the Human's won-loss record stands at an abysmal 16-30. Soon to be 31, I am grieved to report. If anyone reads this who is a terribly bad Scrabble player, the Human would like to play you.

    He, I also play Scrabble online with friends and we`re often surprised which words (don´t) exist.

    Out of curiosity - do you use AE or BE ? Is it difficult for the one of you who has to adjust?

      The games are currently on BE but we think FE (felocratic English) is better. There was no major adjustment for the humans, it seems, and there is a helpful list of two letter words on the Lexulous site.

    I am not sure how you could be tabbying, but if it is in the dictionary that is good enough. That is a stinker of a selection of letters that Äiti got!

    Wiktionary tells me that a verb "to tabby" (which would have a present participle "tabbying") means to give a wavy or watered appearance to a textile . . . i.e. related to the noun "tabby" which is said textile (watered silk).

    What surprised me was that the watered silk was meaning 1 of noun tabby, and the brindled cat was meaning 3. Meanings 2 and 4 are left as an exercise for the student . . . ;-)

      Thank you for this, purrmonster! Äiti is delighted by this - as are we as 'giving the appearance of wavy or watered' is something some of the mancats do to textiles here!!!
